The Goth Challenge: Days 28/29/30

Day 28 – Do you consider yourself an eldergoth?

No, for, I hope, obvious reasons: I've been a Goth for less than a year.

Day 29 – What do you think will happen to Goth in the future?

Hmm...hard. I think that new styles of Goth will appear, and it will (hopefully) garner more acceptance from the world. Think about it, in the 19's racism was still accepted, and now, although it's still happening in some sad cases, people are fighting against it. Perhaps in another 30 or so years our children will be being taught about how people used to think Goth's where homicidal, depressed, fat, thin, lesbians who didn't care who we slept with and finding it rather unbelievable.

Day 30 – Make a list of blogs you regularly read and link to them

The Goth Challenge: Days 22/24

Day 22 – If you could attend any Goth event what would it be?

Wave Gotik Treffen. I am probably going to attend this event when I'm a bit older (maybe with a friend) because I have an aunt who lives in Berlin, so I could visit her and go :).

Day 24 – Name the best websites for Goths

Hmm...I mainly only follow blogs do do with online Goth things. Oh wells, I'll make a list

The Ultimate Goth Guide (http://ultimategothguide.blogspot.com/)

Todays outfit (sorry for the lack of pictures, still can't find my camera :( ) : Long sleeved black top, spaghetti strapped (can think of no other way to describe the sleeves, but it's not as bad as it sounds...) black dress (the dress is quite revealing, my mum insists I wear a top under it),  bright pink tights, my boots

The Goth Challenge: Days 13/16/20/21

I had a post planned yesterday (mainly pictures) but then I couldn't find my camera to upload the pictures. Anyhoo, onto the Goth challenge :) And yes, as you may have noticed, I am skipping some Goth Challenge questions, because I'm far behind on it.

Day 13 – What was your first band t-shirt?

I am ashamed to admit I don't own one yet :'(. However, I'm lusting after an Emilie Autumn one of ebay ;-)

Source
Day 16 – What's the most casual you've ever dressed?

Long black top, jeans, purple crocs (I don't care what anyone else says -  I love my crocs! I have really wide feet, and they're pratically the only shoes I own that are comfy!)

Day 20 – If you could dye your hair any colour what would it be?

Midnight blue right now. I have a few hair styles I need to try out before I die though :)

1) Waist length bleached blond hair

2) Midnight blue hair, down to my rib cage.

3) Black hair, with an under shave

4) Bright red, down to my rib cage again

5) Bright pink, a little longer than shoulder length

Day 21 – What body mod do you have or have you considered?

When I was a little younger I got my ears pierced, but sadly they later became infected (apparently I need pure gold piercings :( ) and I had to take them out. Sadness all round (just as any goth likes :P). I really want
to get my ears pierced again, plus a nose piercing :) I also want tattoos, but obviously can't get the tattoo's or nose piercing yet :)

Daily Goth Challenge: Days 9/10/11/12

Day 9 – What genre of music do you dislike?

Hard...I'd say that they're's no particular genre in itself, although most of what I dislike is mainstream music.
Basically, lyrics me a lot to me. If a song has good lyrics I can listen to it over and over, but if the lyrics are about someone 'shagging his bitches' I cannot listen. I just can't.
I think this is part of the reason goth appealles to me. The songs are about things, not just a good tune and someone losing his 'baby'.

The exception to this is Avril Lavinge, whom I listen to despite the lyrics to songs like Girlfriend.

Also, I don't really get 'Screamo', heavy metal and some types of rock (I don't know if the Guns 'n Roses are really rock, but I like them :) ). I assume that there is some type of song in there somewhere but all I hear are drums, guitars and screaming.

Day 10 – What do you hate and love about the subculture?

I really dislike the snarking at baby bats. Although I have never personally come across this, I've heard about it a lot and I have one thing I want to say to any Elder Goths who have a tendency to do this: We're trying our best here!

I love how open minded it is, and how, really, almost anything goes :) I love the music, and the fact that there are so many styles to choose from, as well as to mix and match. Also, you buy clothes to last you as long as you need to wear them, not until that particular fashion goes away.

Day 11 – Is Goth a lifestyle for you?

It's really to soon for me to say, but in regards to the home I felt as I read about it, I'll say yes.

I've always thought of myself as a stranger, my black humor and bookishness practically alone in this world. The (mild) bulling I endured from nursery upwards helped encourage this feeling. However, whilst reading various definitions of Goth on the internet, I realised I wasn't alone, there where hundreds of like-minded people all around the globe! Considering I have been behaving 'gothily' (awful way of putting it but anyways...) since my younger years, I say Goth is a lifestyle to me.

Day 12 – What's your gothic inspiration?

I have many, but defiantly Jillian Venters

I mean, just look at the woman! Sophisticated, gorgeous, and Goth! I think she is what helped win my mum round to me being a Goth, because she, although Goth, is married, has a job and is happy!

In terms of adult Goth I aspire to be like when I reach their age, I must mention Victorian Kitty (from Sophistique Noir - http://www.sophistiquenoir.com/ ).

Taken from her blog here http://www.sophistiquenoir.com/

How gorgeous is she?

As you can see, it's mainly my fellow bloggers I am inspired by :)

Ah, so many more people to mention...

The Goth Challenge: Day 8

Doing this post today as well because might not be able to post for 5 days :)

What's your worst and best experience with non-Goths?

Hm.I guess I haven't had that many bad experience with non-Goths yet...:)

Best

Quite a few to choose from here :) I think the two that stick in my mind might not really count as experiences, but I'm going to say them anyway.

When I went on my brothers class camping trip (both my parents were coming so I had to) I wore my blue velvet dress (it was only one day and one night, so that was all I bought). I had a totally normal time, but my mum later told me that one of the girls I was quite friendly with had told her mum that she thought I looked gorgeous and that she now wanted to be a Goth as well :)

The second 'experience' is along similar lines. It was my brothers end of school play, so I wore my black skirt with petticoat underneath (it's the only skirt I own at the moment that looks good with a petticoat) and a plain black top. Again, no direct compliments, but my mum told me that lots of people had said that I looked lovely. This also helped a lot in my mum accepting my Gothiness.

Worst...Well, I've got the usual school comments about how 'emo' I am, but I'm used to snide comments so I wouldn't count them. I think the worst is when I was in Cornwall, finishing my book and waiting for my mum and dad to arrive (they had agreed to let me finish reading whilst they got the car) and these two tracksuited boys across the street kept muttering, glaring and pointing at me. Luckily my parents arrived before anything happend, but it sticks in my mind as the first (and to this date, only - lucky me so far!) time I have felt afraid because of my gothiness. I was being extremely melodramatic but I couldn't stop thinking of poor Sophie.

Daily Goth Challenge: Days 2/3/4/5

These are all the questions for the moment that I don't have long answers for

Day Two: Show some babybat photos

Look though this blog for photo's, you've got babybat photos :P

Day Three: When did you come out of the Goth closet?

A couple of Days after I decided I wanted to be Goth

Day 4 – Name a stereotype or cliche you can relate to

1) Spiders! I've always loved spiders, and spiderwebs. I remember about 7 and be confused when everyone screamed when they saw a spider...And spiderwebs are BEAUTIFUL!

2) Bats! I love bats. Bats are amazing. Enough said

3) Graveyards

Day 5 – Is there a local Goth band or group in your area?

Sadly, no. But there is a band called Bombay Bicycle Club that my sister loves who live a few streets away, and David Tennent and the Dr. Who before him both live in the same little bit of London :) I've seen them out shopping a lot, may be selling autographs at some point via this blog :P

Goth Challenge Day 1: Becoming a Goth

Thank you, Juliet's Lace, for giving me an excuse to do this post, I've wanted to do it for ages :P

I owe my discovery of Goth to three people: 1) A family friend 2) Emilie Autumn 3) Teresa from Toxic Tea Party

A while ago (I think it was in about March or so, not sure) we (mum, dad, annoying older sister, even more annoying  younger brother and me) went to see some family friends we hadn't seen in a while. We started to take it in turns to play music because we where bored, and Joanna (one of the friends kids, who sadly isn't Goth, but a self described Manga Freak) played Marry Me by Emilie Autumn. She described it as one of her many 'strange songs', my brother and sister laughed at the strangeness of her song, but I, obviously, enjoyed it very much. Later, on youtube, I discovered her many other songs, and fell in love.

I started spamming the role playing site I use with Emilie Autumn songs, which annoyed many people, but Teresa also discovered an enjoyment of them. She decided to become a Goth (I don't know her full Goth story), and suggested the idea to me as well. Whist I was interested then, and, after she showed me The Ultimate Goth Guide, decided I wanted to become a Goth as well. However, the 'becoming a Goth' part proved tricky.

As you probably know from a few earlier posts, I used to be a pink freak. I was never into brand names and fashions, but I didn't like to wear dark colors. Obviously, this presented some problems, because I had no way to start dressing Goth, and I thought my mum and dad would find it even harder to accept my change to Goth because I had been so brightly clad before. I eventually gathered the nerve to tell them my plans for a wardrobe renovation, and they took it remarkably well. My dad doesn't really notice much change (He is a bloke, after all...), although I get the feeling my mum doesn't really like it, she's trying to adjust, and my siblings are being well...siblings :P

A trip to Camden, a raid of second hand stores, and a raid of my mum's so called 'fancy clothes', a search of my Halloween box, and here I am. Despite the fact that I thought my grandparents wouldn't be so accepting, my gran loves my gothiness, and is giving my all her old petticoats :D
