Book Review: The Darker Sex, Edited by Mark Ashley

The Darker Sex: Tales of the Supernatural and Macabre by Victorian Woman Writers

Obviously, when I saw this book I had to get it. I mean: Supernatural, macabre, Victorian and some Feminism? I grabbed it as soon as I sighted it, and I'm very glad I did.

The Palace of Death - Emilie Bronte

Death wants a new servant, to help her claim more lives. But who shall she choose? What is the greatest enemy of mankind, Ambition, Fanaticism, Intermperance or Wrath?

The Old Nurses Tale - Elizabeth Gaskell

The young Miss Rosamand and her nurse are living in a large house, and everyone likes them. Everythings great...Until one day Miss Rosamand disapears, and when she's found near dead tells a tale of a young girl luring her out of the house, to a woman who sang her to sleep. Who is this young girl? And what awful past does the house hold?

The Shadow in the Corner - Mary E. Braddon

A maid comes to work in Wildheath Grange, but what secrets does her room hold? As she tries to sleep she feels a great depression apon her, and just before dawn a strange shadow appears by a rusty hook. Why is this shadow here? And what lengths will the maid go to to relive herself from her night time hauntings?

Obviously, there are more stories than these, but these three are my favourite

A brilliant buy, and a necessary addition to any Goth's bookshelf

Extremely Disappointing Review of Be Individual Hair Dye

I know I've already done a post today but I have been meaning to do this since I used the dye in case anyone else uses it.

Just before I went to Cornwall, my mum told me that if I tided my room properly (It was really messy) she'd let me dye my hair blue. Of course, I agreed, and spent a day tiding, with the prospect of returning to school with blue hair hot on my mind. After I had finished, I went to Wood Green Shopping Center (It's really called 'The Mall' but oh wells...), and, in Wilkinsons, found what I had been looking for. It seemed perfect: it was semi-permanent, you didn't need to bleach your hair for it (my mum doesn't like bleach), and the colour - 'Blue Mood' - was exactly what I wanted. I should have been wary at the price (£3.00!) but I wasn't...

I got home, and after dinner, applied it to my head. after the 25 minuets it said to wait, I washed it off, to reveal...Exactly the same hair as I had put it on. The dye had done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! I had no time to get an alternative brand, because we where leaving early the next day. My disapointment was absolute. Be Individual is an awful brand.

On a nicer note, check out these awesome things! http://www.smileysigns.co.uk/index.html Click on 'Giggles 1' for the first lot :) Not exactly Gothic, but I need one!

Side note: Lesbian Vampyers From Outer Space by the Scary Bitches is my new favorite song

Review: No7 Stay Perfect Silver Eyeliner

Name: No7 Stay Perfect Liquid Eyeliner (Silver)
No7 Stay Perfect Eyeliner

Said to have 'dazzling, liquid colour with amazing staying power'.

I find the color is quite subtle, and fades easily into natural creases in the skin, meaning anyone with wrinkles around the eyes can't wear it really. I wouldn't call the color dazzling, but it's fine for my uses, and for a school with a strict uniform code it's great :). It's quite easy to apply, although it does sometimes clump together on the brush, so when you apply it you get a big splodge of silver, instead of a thin, subtle line. And as for the staying power...Well, I need in invest in stronger make up remover. It sticks so hard that when I finally manage to rub it off I have a large red patch on my skin.

Rating: 6/10

I've seen better eyeliners but I've also seen worse.
