Why Patience Really IS A Virtue Sometimes

I know how it feels: You've just discovered this amazing new subcuture that describes you in every single way, and you want to completely immerse yourself in it in every single way, and you want everyone who sees you to immediately recognize you as a member of it. I've been there. I'm still there, as a matter of fact. But it takes time to look as ooky-spooky as you are inside. For a long long time (It's been almost a year for me) you will simply look at best vaugly alternative. Why? Because Goth clothes are expensive. You have to collect clothes over time, until eventually every outfit you own screams 'different'.

You can speed up this process a little by not going on that 'just discovered this amazing subculture' shopping trip. Instead save up your money slowly, treating yourself occasionally to something beautiful. Whilst saving up, charity stores are the place to be. Here you can buy anything cheap, and then mess around with it to your hearts desire. Buy a cheap, nasty fabric first to practice on. If you don't have a sewing machine, hand sewing is always an option, although of course it takes a lot longer. If your school has sewing machines, asking if you could use them at lunch or after school is also an option: Most textiles teachers will be thrilled that you have an interest in DIYing your clothes, and they might even offer you tips on DIY.

Yeah, really short post today, but I can't think of anything else to write.

DIY: Safety pins are awesome.

I love safety pins. I really do. They're just so easy to use! To make ANY outfit seem more unique, I find just attaching a load of safety pins is great. (Don't worry, I do have some pattern behind my random attaching). Warning: This post contains a lot, because I'm going away to Cornwall for a while (not that long) so I'm just doing a load of posts in one

Safety-Pinned Fingerless Gloves

Difficulty Rating: Easy

You Will Need:

Something to use for the gloves. Socks, legwarmers, armwarmers, old top sleeves, whatever. I've used legwarmers

Obviously, safety pins. As many as you want

Scissors

Step 1) Cut a thumb hole in each of the potential gloves

Step 2) Attach safety pins however you wish to. Here is some of what I did.

Safety pins around the thumb hole. This also stops fraying.

I attached pins messily around the edge of it

Threaded Eyebrows!

I got my eyebrows threaded today :). I love them but god it hurts...

More Safety Pins!

This time on my belt

Not going to do a tutorial for this because it's super easy. You literally just attach safety pins in a line

DIY top :D

I had my first proper attempt and DIYing today and it came out quite well :D I've got this really nice top but it was looking quite plain, so I basically attacked it with safety pins :D It's not quite done (I need more safety pins :P) but you can get a good idea of it from these pictures

This is the T-Shirt after DIYing it. Since photo the ribbons on it have moved to the back, I was just to lazy to take a new photo
The coller of the top. As you can see, I took safety pins and I attached them :D
The sleeve I decorated. I basiaclly got a load of small gold safety pins from my sewing box (that I inherited off my late grandmother, it's got the most amazing things in it) and pinned them onto the top :D
The back of the top. (since photo I've added more of this, so the ribbon goes right to the bottom) This was extrordinarily easy to do. I basically got safety pins (any equal amount) and put them in two paralal lines down the back of the top. Then I took a ribbon and laced it through the pins :D Later I'm going out to get an emerald green ribbon to lace it with instead of the pink.

So there you have it. My wonderfully simple first DIYed top :D
